RALEIGH, NC, April 27, 2018 – 60% of small businesses are out of business in 6-months after a cyber attack.1 This startling statistic was the catalyst for Strategic Security Solutions’ event, 2018 Cyber Security Summit.
On Friday, April 20, 2018, nearly 50 business professionals in the Triangle area, across multiple industries gathered at the RTP Headquarters to hear from cyber security experts, including FBI agent, Jessica Nye on how to best protect their business from the growing cyber threats. The main focus of the event was to shed a light on how cyber security relates to the Electronic Security Industry.
Speakers and panelist from local cyber and physical security companies provided attendees with tips and resources to help mitigate the threats and converge their physical security with the growing need of cyber security.
Keynote speaker, Ken Mills, General Manager at Dell EMC spoke about the four transformations occurring in surveillance. Overall event topics included presentations on Physical and Cyber Security, Mobility as it relates to Cyber Security, Video Surveillance Devices, People-Focused Cyber Security Solutions and Cyber Threats and Trends Observed by the FBI.
“90% of small businesses don’t use any data protection at all for company or customer information.2 When I read this statistic, I was shocked”, said Jay Slaughterbeck, President at Strategic Security Solutions. “Something had to be done and we all know that the first line of defense is education. So, we created an event that pulled the knowledge and expertise of top local businesses in the field to start educating small businesses so they can protect themselves.”
“We spend a lot of time educating small business owners about the need to implement a cyber security defense for their company. It really starts with education of the business owner and then education of the employees”, said Rick Miller, COO with the Tek and featured panelist at the event.
The event’s goal was to start small businesses on the path of cyber security awareness. All attendees walked away with specific tools and resources for them to begin implementing a cyber security plan for their own business.
